D-4 Language Training Visa: Documents You Need
The documents usually asked for a D-4 visa to study Korean, where to apply, a step-by-step checklist and the mistakes that most often delay a visa.

To study Korean at a university language institute, you usually need a D-4 visa (D-4-1, Korean language training). The exact document list depends on your country, the embassy and the school. Use this page as a general guide, and always follow the latest notice of the Korean embassy in your country.
Documents usually needed
| Document | Notes |
|---|---|
| Visa application form | Use the current form from the embassy. Fill it in exactly as in your passport and sign it. |
| Passport | Your original passport and a copy of the photo page. Check that it is valid for long enough. |
| Photo | A recent color photo. Follow the size and background rules in the embassy notice. |
| Certificate of admission | Issued by the school (표준입학허가서) after you pay tuition. |
| Tuition payment proof | A receipt or payment confirmation from the school. |
| Proof of funds | Usually a bank balance certificate. The amount and how long the money must be held differ by school and country. |
| Final education certificate | Your diploma or graduation certificate, with an apostille or consular confirmation (영사확인). Some embassies also ask for transcripts. |
| Other documents (sometimes) | Family relation documents (for example, if a parent pays), a study plan, a parent’s employment or income documents. |
| TB test certificate (some countries) | From a hospital designated by the Korean embassy. |
Where to apply
You usually apply at the Korean embassy or consulate, or at an official visa application center in your country. In some countries you must apply through the visa application center. Requirements and processing times differ by country, so read the embassy notice before you prepare documents. In some cases, the school applies in Korea for a Certificate for Confirmation of Visa Issuance (사증발급인정서) for you. Ask your school which way it uses.
Step-by-step checklist
- 1
Check the embassy notice
Download the latest D-4 document list from the Korean embassy in your country. Check if you need to book an appointment.
- 2
Get the certificate of admission
Pay tuition and receive the certificate from the school. Check that your name and date of birth match your passport.
- 3
Prepare your education documents
Get an apostille or consular confirmation for your diploma. This can take time, so start early.
- 4
Get the bank certificate
Get it close to your application date so it is not too old. Check the amount and holding period your school or embassy asks for.
- 5
Translate and copy
Documents that are not in Korean or English usually need a translation. Make copies of everything.
- 6
TB test (if needed)
Take the test at a designated hospital and keep the certificate.
- 7
Submit and wait
Submit your documents, pay the visa fee and keep the receipt. Do not buy non-refundable flight tickets before you get the visa.
Common mistakes
- The bank certificate is too old, or the money was put in just before applying when a holding period is required.
- Your name is spelled differently on the passport, diploma and certificate of admission.
- The diploma has no apostille or consular confirmation.
- Documents are only in your language, with no Korean or English translation.
- The photo does not meet the size or background rules.
