Report your new address after moving
Moved to a new home? Registered foreigners must report the new address within 15 days of moving in. Here are three ways to report, what to bring, and why it also helps protect your deposit.
If you have an ARC and move to a new home, you must report your change of residence (체류지 변경신고). Under the Immigration Act (Article 36), you must report within 15 days of moving in.
Three ways to report
Checklist: what you need
- Your ARC
- Renting a home: your lease contract
- Living in a dormitory: a dorm certificate
- Living in housing provided by someone else (a relative, friend or employer): an accommodation confirmation from that person
Step by step
- 1
Note your move-in date
Write down the day you moved in. Your 15 days start from this day.
- 2
Prepare documents
Get your ARC and the right proof of residence for your situation.
- 3
Report
Apply on HiKorea, or visit the community service center or the immigration office for your new address.
- 4
Check your ARC
Your new address is recorded and shown on the back of your ARC. If your card still shows the old address, ask the office or the community service center.
- 5
Tell others
Give your new address to your school or employer, your bank and your phone carrier.
It also helps protect your deposit
Your address report also works as a move-in report (전입신고) for lease protection. Together with a fixed-date stamp (확정일자) on your lease contract, it helps protect your deposit if there is a problem with the home later. You can ask about the fixed-date stamp at the community service center. The rules are detailed, so check the official guide or ask an expert before you sign a lease.
